DUSK PHOTOGRAPHY SERVICES

If you're looking for that 'wow' shot to really leap off your web page or brochure, then a good architectural dusk photograph will do that for you.

As an architectural photographer Chris is often asked to add dusk photography to compliment a full set. Dusk photography is a fabulous way of showing off your building in a totally different way. With warm lights on inside and a cool twilight sky as a backdrop, your building comes alive, the inside is visible externally and bold colours emerge making for stunning hero shots.

Practicing architectural photography in Scotland has it's advantages and disadvantages when it comes to dusk photography. Winter is a great time of year to get the best photographs, mainly because it goes dark around 4-5pm when there is still plenty of activity in a street or within an office for instance. However Chris is perfectly happy to capture your building at any time of the year and is often found waiting for the sun to set in the height of summer at around 11pm.

As a main contractor working primarily in London, this was our first time using Chris and what a great decision that was! He was responsive and incredibly patient with us and has showcased our project beautifully. The photographs are better than we could have imagined and both our client and professional teams were blown away with the results too. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Chris.

DUSK PHOTOGRAPHY EXPLAINED

this small garden extension comes to life after dusk, the inside spilling out into the garden and showing off the link between the spaces beautifully

Chris LOVES dusk architectural photography shoots. There simply is no 'wrong' type of building for it, each brings it's own take on a shoot and what will make it magic. It may be a huge office or apartment block with multiple occupants, a busy street with car light trails in the foreground. Or it might be a small garden room extension set against the backdrop of a largely stone period property.

Either way, dusk architectural photography will provide a new approach and create bold colourful photographs which really stand out.

Dusk photography doesn't just have to be from the outside in. It can work incredibly well to show off views from properties.

This Edinburgh Cityscape was timed to show off the vibrant city lights and twilight sky from within a modern house. The windows to the dining area framed the view perfectly and the interior was left deliberately dark to bring the outside in.

Colourful sky

Chris will sometimes look for a blended exposure which combines a beautiful sunset (taken just before twilight begins and when it's usually not dark enough for the inside lights to appear), and a twilight photograph of the building when it has gone dark enough for the inside lights to be prominent. This type of dusk architectural photograph gives the best of both worlds, a building lit up inside set against a stunning sunset sky.

dull day photographs

Occasionally Chris doesn't need to wait until the sun sets to get a good 'dusk' type architectural photograph. Working in the UK does have it's advantages and a dark cloudy winter day can sometimes be a help when trying to capture a photograph which shows the inside of a modern extension lit up against the period property stone backdrop. This allows you to see into the property and appreciate the layers linking the old and new.
