Responding to the brief

Hotels come in all shapes and sizes, so the skill of a good hotel photographer like Chris Humphreys is in interpreting the brief to present a set of images which capture the ambience and feel of the spaces. These may be small and intimate or grand and regal, so what works for a boutique hotel may not work for a large scale resort.

Chris works with his hotel clients from the start to develop a brief and ensure that all aspects of the hotel are captured, from public spaces, to rooms, staff, food and drink service etc.

Welcome...

Selling the experience is everything to hotel operators and Chris understands this.

Building a rapport with staff in a short space of time to get the best out of them is a skill in itself, this is something Chris enjoys and will always seek to get the best out of any photographic set up

Setting the scene

Chris is quite often asked to augment architectural photography of hotel rooms / public spaces with staff portraits, drinks service or food service.

This can add greatly to the set of photographs and brings together the whole picture for the hotel - the service, the spaces and the people. Staff usually love to get involved and Chris will always manage to find some willing models on site.

External Context

Chris uses external photography to give context to each hotel, sometimes this doesn't involve photographs of the hotel itself but what is happening around it. In this case one of the main selling points of the Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews is of course the golf course. Chris started off his photography career taking landscapes so very much enjoys the opportunity to be creative with complimentary photography like this.
